Former Bobcat Named to Can-Am League All-Star Team
DURHAM, N.C. (GCSU RELEASE) – Former Georgia College lefty Alex Burkard (2007-2010) was named to the Can-Am League All-Star Team, the organization announced recently.
Burkard is a pitcher for the Trois-Rivieres Aigles in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec. At the time of the All-Star announcement, he led the league with a 2.47 ERA and posted the second-most wins on the circuit with nine. In his first 15 starts this year, Burkard had yet to give up double-digit hits and had never surrendered more than four earned runs in an outing.
He had been named the Rawlings Pitcher of the Month in July and the Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week at the beginning of August. Burkard finished the season with a 9-6 record and 2.88 ERA over 16 starts, fanning 93 batters over his 100 innings.
The Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball, informally referred to as the Can-Am League, is a professional, independent baseball league based in Durham, N.C. The five-team league was won by the Quebec Capitales this season.
