Flood watches and warnings issued for much of Middle Georgia through Thursday

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for much of Middle Georgia. Rain will increase across the area through the day on Wednesday into Thursday bringing the potential for 2-3″ of rain in addition to the rain we have already seen. Saturated soils will likely lead to flash flooding in areas that see the heaviest rain.
In addition to the flash flooding threat, many streams, and rivers are already near or above flood stage. Due to the additional rainfall a Flood Warning has been issued for the Ocmulgee river in Macon. Flood stage for the river is 18′ and the forecast for the river is 21.9′. It should be noted that at 21′ water will likely be covering the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail. Agricultural lands downstream of Macon will likely be under 1-4′ of water through the weekend.
