Flint shares energy savings tips to help you stay cool this summer
The temperatures are soaring this summer in Middle Georgia and people are trying to stay cool even when they’re inside their homes. Temperatures are nearing 100 degrees and residents are turning up their air conditioning trying to beat the heat, but that can cause higher electrical bills.
Flint Energies has a call center to answer customers’ questions about their bills and to offer advice on how they can save money.
“We listen to them to understand their particular situation, says Marian McLemore, Flint Energies Public Relations Manager. “But we also give them energy tips on how to use electricity wisely to conserve energy which makes their usage go down, which in turn makes their bill more affordable.”
Flint Energies analyst Rod Green suggest keeping your thermostat somewhere around 78 degrees because anything below that will cost you.
“Invest in getting the adjustable thermostat, which at times when you are away from home you can set it for a temperature where it’s gonna regulate to 78 or even maybe 76 degrees,” says Green. “Therefore won’t use excessive energy while you’re gone away from home.”
Green also advises checking your air conditioning unit to make sure it is functioning properly.
“We recommend to keep your filters on your air conditioning system clean,” he added. “We recommend changing them every 30 days.”
Green says insulation inside your home is key to keeping the cool air inside without allowing it to escape through doors and windows.
“It all depends on how well you insulated your home,” he continued. “It’s gonna keep that air that you’re producing in the home.”
Green also suggests turning off computers, monitors, TVs, and other appliances to keep your electric bill low.
