Flint Energies Working to Keep Power On During Upcoming Winter Storm

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Flint Energies power crews are working around the clock to prevent any of their 86,000 customers from losing power.

The company had already activated its Emergency Restoration Plan by noon Monday. Officials say they were being proactive, by sending work crews out to cut down tree limbs that threaten power lines, as a precaution for Tuesday’s predicted severe weather.

Marian McLemore is Flint Energies Public Relations Manager. McLemore says the power company can detect power outages before they are reported.

“The technology that we have now, we know about the outages almost as they happen,” says McLemore. “So we are already in transit most of the time to find out, the cause of the outage and by then we are already in the power restoration mode.”

The System Operations room is filled with computers, maps of service areas, and it is where they monitor the weather.

“This is where the nucleus of the electric co-operative that shows us all the lines of the apparatus, that we use to deliver power in the Central Georgia area,” she added.

In the event of a massaive power outage Flint Energies restores power to the larges affected areas first.

“It is a priority to restore power or fix equipment that is going to give power to the most number of consumer owners at a given time and then we work downstream,” McLemore continued.
