KATHLEEN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Flint Energies has put a new substation in Houston County to boost power delivery speed and reliability due to the 20% growth in Houston County.

Vice President of cooperative communications at Flint Energies Marian McLemore says this substation is mainly to keep up with the growth and demand in Kathleen.

“Over the last 10 years we’ve seen about a 20% growth, just in Houston County,” McLemore said. “So, we’re having to build infrastructure to meet those needs.”

The new substation will be Flint’s 50th substation, and most of them are in Houston County.

“We’re just keeping up with the growth and the demand within Houston County, particularly in the Kathleen area,” McLemore said. “That’s why Woodard Road station was built. So, we’re just keeping up and building for the growth, we’re expecting to come.”

McLemore explains how this benefits Flint customers.

“We’re strengthening the electric system that we have in place,” McLemore said. “It allows for more growth, more capacity for more people to come in, and business to move in.”

McLemore tells 41NBC there will be a new substation built on the northern end of Houston County late this year, and another one on the Perry bypass in early 2027 to help with the southern part of Houston County.
