WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Wednesday was Early National Signing Day, and five football players from Warner Robins High School signed letters of intent to further their careers.

Demons head coach Shane Sams says the signing event shows how much work it takes for players to reach the next level of their careers.

“All these people can see the talent that’s on the field and what they do on the field, but more tremendously of what they do off the field,” Sams explained. “You know, they’re in the weight room. Academically, they’re putting in the work in the classroom, and that sets them out to be able to come and get this achievement right here and to get acknowledged and be able to sign these national letters of intent.”

The signees included athlete Cam Flowers, who will play for Western Kentucky. Receiver Isaiah Canion signed with Georgia Tech, quarterback Judd Anderson signed with the University of Miami, offensive lineman Nick Reeves signed with UGA as a preferred walk-on and tight end Mikhai Issac signed with Georgia Southern.

Canion has been playing football since he was five years old and says he couldn’t have made it to this point without the encouragement of his coaches.

“There’s a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes that people don’t really realize,” Canion said. “So it just feels good to have our fruits come to fruition.”

Canion chose to play for Georgia Tech because he says it feels like home.

Quarterback Judd Anderson says he chose Miami because he wanted something different.

“It’s a special place,” he said. “I mean, coach (Mario) Christobal and staff, it’s a really special group, and that culture, it’s a different culture. I mean, it’s a family.”

He says he feels lucky to be selected for something that few players get a chance to do.

Coach Sams says while he loves coaching football, the most important thing to him is being able to mentor successful young men.

“It’s about these kids,” he said. “These kids mean everything. Trying to get these kids prepared for the future, to be molded into grown man and then get them grown adults and then get them to the next level, that’s huge. And to be able to stand next to people who have done that and put in the work is tremendous.”
