Fitness festival features Guinness World Record oldest female body builder
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The first Middle Georgia Wellness and Fitness Festival started Friday. The two-day event kicked off with a luncheon at the Macon Marriott hotel.
The festival luncheon featured Guinness World record holder of the oldest female body builder, Ernestine Shepherd.
Macon-Bibb Mayor Robert Riechert wanted to give the 78-year-old body builder a platform to encourage others. He says the festival was the perfect fit for her to share her story.
Shepherd says she is dedicated to helping people get in shape.
“I want people to know that age is nothing but a number and that you can get fit and if ever there were an anti-aging pill boy you’d have to call it exercise,” says Shepherd.
The festival will continue Saturday, with “Fitness in the Park” at Tattnall Square Park from 9 a-m to noon.
Festivities will continue on Sunday, with “Running for Ronald 5k” at 3:00 p-m. Registration is $30 for adults,
and $20 for children.
Proceeds from this event will benefit Ronald McDonald House charities.
