Fishermen shot at on Lake Tobesofkee want justice

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The fisherman who were shot at on Lake Tobesofkee last month want to know why no arrests have been made in the case.

Adriel Miles and Shelby Smith say it happened the night of March 21st. They vividly remember being in their boat when someone fired several bullets at them. They say Bibb County Sheriff David Davis told them an arrest would be made, but they haven’t seen a follow through on that promise. The fishermen claim if the roles were reversed, they would have already been arrested.

“The only person right now that needs to be held accountable is Sheriff Davis and the sheriff’s department because they have failed us. No justice has been done to us. We’re just regular people. We just wanted to fish that night,” explains Smith.

Sheriff Davis says no arrest was made that night because no one can identify the shooter. They also haven’t found a gun. Sheriff Davis admits his deputies could have done more in this investigation.

“We could have gotten a search warrant if need be. We could have gone into the house, searched the occupants, done forensics examinations on whoever the occupants of the house were at that time. They could have watched the house,” recalls Sheriff Davis.

Sheriff Davis takes full responsibility for his deputies’ actions. He adds even though they are still on duty, letters of reprimand have been added to their files.
