First year Jones County coach hopes to pass on his success to new team
Last year at Griffin, Rogers employed a spread offense that averaged 42.7 points a game, which helped his team all the way to a state title. However, it may be difficult for Jones County to achieve that sort of success with one of its best weapons, running back Walker Juhan, out for the year with an injured ACL and MCL. Juhan rushed for 1,070 yards and scored 13 touchdowns last season.
“Replacing a talent such as Walker… you don’t do it,” said Rogers. “We’ll do some things a little different, play running back by committee a little bit.”
Defensively, the Greyhounds only allowed 20 points per game. Despite being considered an offensive coach, Rogers knows the importance of defense. “You always rely on defense, and everybody talks about offense at Griffin, but we had good defense, too.”
The Greyhounds will take the field August 29 against Morgan County.
