First Phase of Road Work Begins Around Medical Center in Downtown Macon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bumpy roads, and broken sidewalks are being ripped up on pine street in downtown Macon, as part of the plan to revitalize the roads surrounding the Medical Center of Central Georgia.

The city of Macon has partnered with MCCG for the $1 million project that will take place in four phases.

Project manager, Wimberly Treadwell says the first part of the project was to tackle Pine Street which was too damaged to pave.

Treadwell says they also plan to add in “traffic calming elements,” to up pedestrian safety.

“We’ll have some medians in the street with trees, as I said wider sidewalks. We also are going to have areas for loading and unloading patients that are out of the street,” says Treadwell.

This first phase of the project is expected to be complete in six weeks. Treadwell says you can contact your doctor for updated maps to access the offices during the construction.
