Firefighters Give Out Heating Safety Tips
JEFFERSONVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Firefighters with the Twiggs County Fire Department want you to make sure you take the proper steps to stay safe when making your house warm and toasty.
Assistant Part-Time Fire Chief Javarez Bryant is stressing to put Carbon Monoxide Detectors in your home, especially if you have a gas heater.
“Make sure you put them in the proper location as well. A lot of people get them confused with a smoke detector and put them up high, but it needs to be down low on the floor. Gas settles instead of rises and a lot of people get those mixed up,” Bryant said.
HEATING SAFETY TIPS
– Make sure your family has working smoke detectors.
– Keep space heaters away from drapes and curtains.
– Inspect and maintain fireplaces before using them during the cold months.
Have a fire escape plan for your family.
