Firearm discovered at Warner Robins High School, no incident or threat to school

Staff and law enforcement followed procedures to share information with parents once the firearm was discovered.

HOUSTON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Warner Robins High School staff and law enforcement confiscated a firearm from a student when searching their backpack on Tuesday, according to the Houston County School District.

There was no incident or threat made with the firearm on August 27.

Staff and law enforcement followed procedures to share information with parents once the firearm was discovered.

 The following call was made to parents:

“Good afternoon. This is Chris McCook, principal of Warner Robins High School. I’m calling to let you know that a firearm was found during a search of a student’s backpack today. Please be assured that all students and staff are safe. The safety and well-being of our students and staff is always our number one priority, and we will continue to investigate any and all safety concerns. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Thank you for support of Warner Robins High School.”

The Houston County School District says “Safety is our number one priority, and we will not tolerate weapons of any kind at school. Working together with our students and parents as a team, we can continue to keep our schools a safe place to learn.”
