Filmmaker excited to show film at Macon Film Festival

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – As the Macon Film Festival gets underway, one filmmaker is in town to bring to light an important subject, which is the basis for his latest film.

The Samaritan, directed by Kevin McAfee, tells the story of Eddie Roush, who went into Communist Romania to rescue a defector’s family from a hostile regime under President Nicolae Ceaușescu.

“One thing that I think is very unique about this film, is that it really speaks to people of faith, and even people who don’t have any faith at all,” said McAfee, who also produced the film. “And I think here in Georgia, no matter what background you come from, you can walk into this film and see this heroic act that Eddie was involved in and I believe you’ll be inspired and moved.”

Before his latest film, McAfee was responsible for such fare as Beyond the Gates of Splendor, End of the Spear, and Last Dance of Courage.

“The story is timely,” continued McAfee. “It asks the question, who is our neighbor? Nicolae Ceaușescu killied millions of people in the church. Millions of people. And a revolution took place, a coup d’etat that took place when Eddie went into the Cold War. And that’s what the film’s about, and that’s why we’re excited about being apart of the Macon Film Festival to tell the story.”
