Fight Cancer in All Colors 5k to take place in Baldwin County

Wright was told in April of 2020 that she had stage 2 breast cancer.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A breast cancer survivor in Middle Georgia is sharing her cancer journey and hosting a 5K to raise awareness about different cancers.

Stephanie Wright felt a lump in her chest in January of 2020. Wright went in for her annual exam and a doctor confirmed that something was off. Wright went in a week after for a mammogram and a biopsy in March.

Wright was told in April of 2020 that she had stage 2 breast cancer. She began treatment in May in Milledgeville and had 16 treatments of chemotherapy. Wright later had a double mastectomy, reconstruction surgery and is now four years cancer free.

“I felt like God had something more that he wanted me to do,” says Wright. “He wanted me to share my story. Once I shared my story, several people reached out to me that were now facing breast cancer or going through it. ”

Wright later decided that rather than focusing on only breast cancer, she wanted to advocate for all types of cancer.

The 3rd Annual Fight Cancer in All Colors 5k Fun Walk is October 12.

“It’s a community of conquerors. It’s just precious to see everyone come together,” says Wright.

The 5k will be at the Baldwin County Track/Soccer Complex, located at 119 Meeks Road in Milledgeville. Registration/set up begin at 9 a.m. and the victory lap will be at 10 a.m.

Wright added “We all get together and we walk hand in hand and we take that first lap. It’s very emotional because if you’ve ever been through it you know that sometimes it’s difficult for you to walk and for you to do your day-to-day task.”

There will be t-shirts to purchase, food trucks, vendors, health checks, and a live DJ. There will also be a balloon release to honor those who have died from cancer.
