Fight between friends turns fatal in Milledgeville, teen suspect in custody
MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An 18 year-old in Milledgeville is now in custody and facing charges for shooting and killing another man early Monday evening inside the Milledgeville Manor apartments.
Several residents inside the apartment complex say they’ve had enough of the violence but many didn’t want to speak on camera out of fear of retaliation. One woman was brave enough to tell 41NBC her account of what happened.
“This boy pulled up and they were standing out there arguing, and it wasn’t five minutes before ‘pow, pow, pow’. I heard three shots and that was it. The boy was laying on the ground,” she said.
24 hours after gunshots rang out inside Milledgeville Manor the neighborhood was pretty quiet.
“We have a young man whose lost his life and we have a young man charged with murder so it’s just a horrible incident all around,” said Captain Brad King with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.
Residents are still shaken by the fight between friends that took a fatal turn.
“It’s just hard to talk about. I’m hurting right now and I just want it to stop,” the resident continued.
Investigators with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office say it all started with an argument between 18 year-old Monterius Grable and 25 year-old Ladarrius Cummings inside the complex.
“An oddity of this case is they’re pretty good friends. We’ve worked some cases before where both had been involved so it’s not un(usual) for them to be together,” King told 41NBC.
It ended with Grable shooting Cummings once in the stomach.
“The area around Milledgeville Manor has historically been a high drug trafficking neighborhood, it is high in gang activity and therefore has a high violence rate,” King explained.
Though he says he doesn’t believe this case was gang related and neither men involved were residents in the neighborhood, the resident who spoke with 41NBC anonymously says she’s tired of living in fear.
“It’s sad because nobody in this area starts any drama. It’s the outside people. I’m tired of telling my grandbabies to ‘get down’,” she told 41NBC.
Grable’s parents turned him in to the sheriff’s office earlier Tuesday morning. He’s being charged with aggravated assault and murder.
Though he is in custody, deputies are still gathering information and trying to speak to witnesses. If you know anything they’re asking you to contact their tip line at 478-445-5102.
