Fentanyl supplier from Atlanta sentenced in Macon

A recording played in court shows him laughing about a fatal overdose in 2020

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – 40-year-old Lagary Williams has been sentenced to more than 28 years in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia.

According to court documents, the defendant was caught laughing about a fatal overdose caused by his supply of fentanyl.

In July of 2020, investigators from several agencies gathered evidence pointing to a drug operation in the Milledgeville area.

Court documents show that investigators identified Williams and Damon Hayes as part of that operation. Agents watching Williams’ luxury apartment in Atlanta found that Hayes was a multi-kilogram distributor of narcotics, and Williams was his supplier.

At one point, agents heard Williams say, “You got one under your belt, boy [laughing]” to a different distributor about a fatal fentanyl poisoning. That recording was caught by a wiretap and later played in court. According to the United States Attorney’s Office Middle District of Georgia, Williams made statements indicating he knew the fentanyl he sourced was dangerously strong.

In 2021, investigators learned via wiretap that Hayes planned to meet Williams in Atlanta and re-supply. The DOJ says that’s when agents executed a federal search warrant at Williams’ apartment.

During the search, agents say they chased Williams and another suspect after they tried to escape by jumping off the apartment’s balcony. Both were arrested shortly after.

According to the DOJ, agents found the following in Williams’ apartment:

  • 2.5 kilograms of fentanyl
  • 1 kilogram of methamphetamine
  • 2 kilograms of cocaine along with roughly 50 kilograms of cocaine base
  • 7 pounds of marijuana
  • 2 handguns

Although Lagary Williams, also known as “Frog”, is the most recent defendant to be sentenced, the DOJ says four other people have been convicted and sentenced. Chief U.S. District Judge Marc Treadwell sentenced Damon Hayes aka “D-5”, Derek Ingram, Quintavius Horton aka “Bloody Bae”, and Travarious Davis aka “D Red” in 2023.

The DOJ credits the DEA, GBI, the Ocmulgee Drug Task Force, the Baldwin County Sherriff’s Office, the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office, the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, the Atlanta-Carolinas HIDTA Office and the Gwinnett Metro Task Force with investigating this case. Deputy Criminal Chief Will Keyes prosecuted the case for the Government.
