MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – More than a dozen female-owned businesses in Macon decided to give back to women in need by donating a percentage of their sales to the Crisis Line and Safe House of Central Georgia.

In honor of Women’s History Month, 10% of sales on Wednesday went to the non-profit, which provides support to victims of family violence and sexual assault, as well as their children, across Middle Georgia. Last year alone, more than 2,500 people received services from the organization, which helps people get back on their feet by providing shelter and paying for necessities.

“We decided to get together and do something that benefits directly back to women here in our community,” the owner of Sugar Magnolia in Macon, Sherri Bacon, said. “And what better way to do that than through the Crisis Line and Safe House? It does so much for the vulnerable women and children in our society.”

“Although Crisis Line and Safe House benefits adult males and children as well, the primary beneficiaries are women,” Crisis Line & Safe House shelter director Suzanne Walker said. “So how wonderful to have women-owned businesses in Middle Georgia supporting us.”

Suzanne says this money will be a big help for the survivors, contributing to efforts like getting a down payment for an apartment, school supplies for their kids, or even an ID card.

Starting a business as a woman can be challenging and requires hard work and determination. However, these female business owners have a message for those who are apprehensive about leaping into business ownership: “Don’t give up. Keep going. It doesn’t matter how old you are. Age is nothing. And just keep going, and you will get there.”
