Fears Leads at LPGA Xavier Invitational
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (MERCER RELEASE) – Senior Lacey Fears carded an even-par 72 to assume the overall individual lead on day one of the LPGA Xavier Invitational at the LPGA International Golf Course. As a team, Mercer’s opening round 305 places the Bears in a tie for fourth place with North Florida.
Daytona State leads the event with an opening round 300, while Morehead State (302) and host Xavier (304) are second and third.
Fears’ 72 bested 94 other competitors and has her one stroke ahead of Daytona State’s Tiffany Chan, North Florida’s Tess Huber and Samford’s Bailey Gray for the individual lead. Senior Mary Alice Murphy and freshman Katy Harris each shot 77 on Saturday and are tied for 21st place. Freshman Macy McRaney and senior Sarah Louie Brown posted 79’s and are tied for 40th place.
The second round is slated for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday.
