Father-Son Duo Arrested, Accused of Smuggling Drugs into Houston County Detention Center

Terry Ray BennettPERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon father-son duo are facing a slew of charges in Houston County after sheriffs deputies caught the father trying to smuggle drugs into the detention center where his son was being held, according to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a news release, 44-year-old Terry Bennett (pictured top) was arrested on Friday, September 27th for conspiring with his son, 25-year-old Sonny Bennett (pictured bottom), to purchase drugs and have them sent into the detention center to the younger Bennett.

The release states the arrest came after a detention officer discovered a substance hidden in a letter that was addressed to Sonny Bennett. Sonny Bennett was being held for the Centerville Police Department for possession of Sonny Ray Bennettless than an ounce of marijuana and a state warrant for bail jumping.

Deputies say both Terry and Sonny Bennett violated the Georgia Controlled Substance Act and are facing multiple charges. They are being held at the Houston County Sheriff’s Detention Center without bond.
