UPDATE: Man shoots, kills daughter on Mother’s Day in East Macon
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An argument turned deadly inside a Macon home on Mother’s Day Sunday.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says 67-year-old Benny Bell began fighting with his 37-year-old daughter Demetrice around 3 a.m. inside their home on Lakeshore Avenue.
During the argument, Benny grabbed a handgun and shot Demetrice in the chest, killing him.
Benny also shot his wife, Thelma, in the stomach.
She’s in stable condition.
The sheriff’s office says Benny is in the Bibb County Jail charged with aggravated assault and murder.

The home sits on Lakeshore Avenue in Macon.
“She had children, and from what I’m understanding, they were home,” said longtime neighbor Stacy Hill.
Hill has known the Bell family for more than thirty years.
“How could that go wrong you know?” she asked.
That’s why the questions hurt even more.
“How could you get so mad that you think it’s okay to go get a gun and shoot your family?” asked Hill. “I wouldn’t have thought in a million years that this would happen to her.”
Bell made his first appearance in court Monday.
“I really don’t know what happened up there, but they were real good people, ya know?” said neighbor Vanderbilt Miller.
Miller has only ever known Benny Bell as a helpful person.
“Yeah he cut the grass all up and down the street there, all up and down the side of the road,” said Miller. “He helped everybody out.”
But right now, there’s only a painful answer to Hill’s questions.
“We’re very, very disappointed in Mr. Bell,” said Hill.
Benny Bell said he understood his charges Monday in court and waived his commitment hearing.
Miller says he’s keeping the family in his prayers.
