U-Haul cab split in half, one dead in accident on I-75 in Monroe County
FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One person is dead after a car accident on I-75 South in Forsyth near Rumble Road Thursday morning.
According to Sgt. Lawson Bittick with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, a U-Haul was split in half after it slammed into a tractor trailer that was stopped on the right shoulder. The passenger of the U-Haul, 26-year-old Letian Qiu, of Macon, died on impact. The accident happened around 10 a.m. at mile marker 180.
Bittick says the U-Haul failed to maintain its lane and struck the back of the tractor trailer. The U-Haul then swerved left across the southbound lanes and struck a mini-van. Four other people were injured, three of which were taken to the hospital.
The tractor trailer was stopped because of a blown tire, according to Bittick.
Traffic is flowing again on I-75 South in the area of the accident, after being delayed for a couple hours.
