Family Ties Headline Veterans-Perry Game of the Week Matchup
It's Unlce versus Nephew as the Veterans Warhawks face off against the Perry Panthers in The Endzone's Week 5 Game of the Week

HOUSTON COUNTY, Georgia – (41NBC/WMGT) – Another story line for the Game of the Week at the Panther Pit features an uncle and nephew squaring off for the first time in their careers as coaches.
Veterans head coach Steven DeVoursney will be on the opposite sideline to face Perry offensive coordinator, and his nephew, Eric DeVoursney, as the Warhawks head to Perry to take on the Panthers.
Both coaches said they usually talk football every week, but this week is different.
“Since he’s been in coaching, we’ve talked ball probably once a week,” Steven DeVoursney said. “We haven’t talked all this week, so I guess we’ll see each other Friday, before and after the game. But you know, it’s going to be fun, it’s exciting. And I’ve seen him play the state championship game on TV, but I didn’t see him in person. So it’s the first time I’ve seen him in person. So he does a great job, and Coach Smith does a great job over there. So that’s what we’re trying to get our program to be like.”
Steven added: “He knows what we do, and he knows how we do it, and vice versa. We’ve just got to go out there and stop him, and he does a really good job and mixes up his formations and stuff like that, and puts you in a bind. So we’ve got to make sure our kids line up right, and that’ll be the biggest thing against them.”
Eric DeVoursney said his family is excited for the matchup.
“Well, our family’s excited, we have a little trash talk back and forth, I guess,” he said. “But yeah, it’s exciting. I’ve learned a lot of football from him over the years. Watched him coach, be a head coach when I was playing ball, and I’ve always followed his career. He’s going to have something up his sleeve that I don’t know about, but over the years, we’ve always talked strategy and scheme.
Eric added: “I do feel like he might benefit more from it than me, because I feel like I’ve been telling him my secrets the last few years, and not ever thinking he would come back. But no, I don’t think there will be an advantage one way or the other.”
