Family Fun Fest Planned for 2013

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon police and first responders are gearing up for this year’s “Family Fun Fest.”

It is a night where children and family come out to Cherry Street Plaza to enjoy free food and activities, like line dancing, inflatables, and movies. The City of Macon is providing free bus transportation to and from the festival.

MPD spokeswoman Jami Gaudet says it is also a chance for children to meet first responders and interact with them during a non-emergency situation.

“This is a way to humanize those very people for children. They bend on a knee, they hug them, they talk to them, they eat dinner with them, they walk around with them, they show them what they do, the explain what they do so we think that’s just crucial in building a better, richer, stronger more cohesive community,” Gaudet said.

“Family Fun Fest” is scheduled for Friday, May 31st from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This is the second year for the event. Organizers are expecting even more people to participate this year.

Gaudet says this is a wholesome and educational evening you won’t want to miss.
