Family-Friendly Summer Entertainment That’s Cheaper Than Going To The Movies

With the kids out of school for the summer, finding family-friendly entertainment that won’t drain the family budget is on many parents minds.

Atlanta Motor Speedway has two weekly events this summer that can be cheaper than going to the movies.

A family of four with kids ages 11 and under can enjoy a whole evening of motorsports entertainment at AMS for $12 to $16.

You can bring your own food and drinks in soft-sided coolers (14″ x 14″ x 14″, no glass containers allowed). Parking is free for the summer series events.

The summer events kickoff this week with “Thursday Thunder” and Friday Night Drags And Car Show.

“Thursday Thunder” Details:

• Opens June 2; every Thursday through August 4
• NEW for 2011: BUZZ CARS.
• Tickets $6 adults / $2 kids 6-11 / ages 5 and under FREE!
• Gates open 6 p.m. / Feature races start at 7:50 p.m.
• OPENING NIGHT: Jersey Thunder Jet Car, the Great Moodini and all classes autograph session.

“Friday Night Drags” Details:

• June 3 is the points opener; every Friday night through August 19
• 19 classes of drag racing and the MCR Safety Show N’ Shine nightly
• More Super Pro cars for 2011
• Tickets $8 adults / ages 5 and under FREE!
• Gates open 6:30 p.m. / Elimination rounds at 9:19 p.m.
• OPENING NIGHT: Jersey Thunder Jet Car
