Fallen Soldiers Honored in Macon

Today, Middle Georgians honored the memory of fallen soldiers at Macon Memorial Park and Linwood Cemetery. For sons of veterans like Cameron Pennybacker, today was about teaching his 12 year old daughter respect for our country’s fallen heroes.

“To have her in this environment reminds her that this day is more than just about the picnics and that there is a big price to be paid for the liberties that we enjoy in this country.”

His father fought for these liberties in World War II. This same war cost Anese Brown her brother.

“He was buried for three years in Belgium but my mother got a letter from him that he wanted to come home so she brought him home and buried him here at Macon Memorial Park.”

Veterans reminded·those at the park that Memorial Day is not just about·remembering those who lost their lives in the wars. Today is also about honoring the people who lived to tell the tales of victory.

“He wasn’t braggadocios about having won the war, but he knew that his service was necessary. So he had a reverence about it, but he was aware about the price he and others had paid for that service,” says Pennybacker.
