Fall is the best time of year to plant native plants

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Did you know now is the best time of the year to buy and plant plants that are native to Georgia into your landscapes?
Georgia Military College Professor of Biology Ben White at the Native Plant Education Center in Warner Robins tells 41NBC a lot of pollinators migrate through Middle Georgia and native Georgia plants require certain types of pollinators.
White says just by mixing a few of the native plants into your landscape can make a difference in Georgia’s ecosystem.
“We carry trees, scrubs that a lot of those are essential for different kinds of wildlife as well like humming birds that eat berries and certain scrubs,” White said. “The non-natives can either be not suitable for them. Sometimes they can be harmful.”
White says they have dozens of types of native plants to choose from at their GMC Warner Robins Campus, located at 115 Prince Street.
The nursery is only open Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Warner Robins Native Plant Center is a community project of Keep Warner Robins Beautiful and Georgia Military College.
