Falcons’ Edwards Rehabbing Knee, Will Not Debut This Week
FLOWERY BRANCH, GA – Defensive end Ray Edwards is rehabbing a knee injury and will not make preseason debut with the Atlanta Falcons this week.
Falcons coach Mike Smith said Wednesday that Edwards had a “minor knee procedure” during the offseason.
After agreeing to a five-year, $30 million contract July 30, Edwards did not disclose the injury to reporters. Edwards, who played his first five seasons with Minnesota, has been limited in practice since signing with Atlanta.
The Falcons host Miami in the preseason opener for both teams on Friday. Kroy Biermann will likely start at Edwards’ spot at right end.
Pro Bowl running back Michael Turner returned for Wednesday’s afternoon practice session after missing the last two days because of a personal matter.
Reserve right guard Mike Johnson is out with a concussion.
