Fair Numbers Down Since Opening Weekend

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Despite the food, concerts and beautiful weather, fair numbers since opening weekend are low.

Georgia National Fair Director of Public Relations Michele Treptow believes the great temperatures may be working against them.

“I think people are holding out in case it rains toward the end of the week,” Treptow said.

The Georgia National Fair doesn’t have exact numbers yet but Treptow said the numbers are well in the average. She anticipates at least 440,000 people will attend; that number is down 20,000 from 2010 and about the same as 2011.

Saturday’s Kellie Pickler and Joe Nichols concert did not sell out. In past year’s Treptow said artists like Blake Shelton had sold out shows.

“Both Kellie Pickler and Joe Nichols put on a great show for those that were there,” Treptow said. “I guess they just don’t have the name recognition yet of a lot of larger acts.”

Tickets are still available for this weekend’s concert featuring Hot Chelle Rae. The fair’s largest turnout was in 2010 with 465,000 people.
