Ex-husband charged in murder of Ohio dentist, wife

Authorities say the man charged in the murder of Monique Tepe and her husband, Spencer Tepe, is Monique’s ex-husband — a Chicago-area vascular surgeon.

(NBC)- Authorities say the man charged in the murder of Monique Tepe and her husband, Spencer Tepe, is Monique’s ex-husband — a Chicago-area vascular surgeon.

Michael David McKee was arrested without incident on Saturday, ten days after the Tepes were found shot to death inside their Columbus, Ohio, home.

Police were first alerted through a 911 call reporting a possible homicide.

“He appears dead… there’s blood,” a caller told dispatchers.

Investigators say they found three shell casings at the scene. The couple’s two children, ages four and one, were also inside the home but were unharmed.

“I can hear kids inside, and I swear I think I heard one yell,” another caller said.

Days after the killings, police released surveillance footage showing a person of interest in the area around the Tepes’ home near the time of the murders. According to court documents, investigators tracked a vehicle that arrived just before the homicide and left shortly afterward. The vehicle was later located in Rockford, Illinois, and linked to McKee.

Video recorded by a resident shows a police officer guarding the entrance to McKee’s luxury apartment building in Chicago. A neighbor told NBC News McKee had moved into the building over the summer and kept a low profile.

“He seemed like a very nice guy, just a normal person,” said neighbor Geraldine Koralik. “He wasn’t nervous or jittery. He looked me straight in the face and smiled when we were talking.”

Court records show McKee and Monique Tepe divorced in 2017 after about two years of marriage.

McKee now faces murder charges as the investigation continues.
