Elderly man driving the wrong way on I-75 lead to head-on collision
FORSYTH , Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An elderly man drove the wrong way onto Interstate 75 and caused a head-on collision, according to a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office news release. The two-vehicle accident happened Saturday around 3:50 p.m., blocking traffic on I-75 near mile marker 186.
81-year old John W. Joyner of Byron entered a northbound entrance ramp, believing he was traveling southbound, according to Monroe County deputies who investigated the crash.
“Joyner, who was driving a 1995 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck, struck a Honda Odyssey van head-on,” continued the news release. The Honda, driven by John Miller of Griffin, 55, had three passengers, two of whom were transported to nearby medical facilities with non-life-threatening injuries.
“Mr. Joyner was also transported to a nearby medical facility with non-life-threatening injuries,” added the release. “He is being charged with violation of a one-way road.”
Everyone involved in the head-on collision was wearing seat belts.
