Macon Welcomes Echoes Of Sound Installation

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — With the Cherry Blossom Festival just days away, NewTown Macon has announced the unveiling of Echoes of Sound, a site-specific installation by acclaimed artist Megan Mosholder.

Emily Hopkins, Vice President of External Affairs at NewTown Macon, spoke about how the new immersive installation brings Macon’s musical heritage to life.

“We are installing Echoes of Sound—this is a new public art installation in the heart of downtown Macon,” Hopkins said. “It’s being installed just in time for the Cherry Blossom Festival. The work is being done by an artist out of Atlanta, Megan Mosholder, who we’ve worked with to come and do this incredible installation.”

Hopkins says NewTown Macon has partnered with Dashboard, a public arts agency out of Atlanta, to transform Poplar Street into an artistic experience.

“This installation will be up for six months,” she said. “It’s called Echoes of Sound, and the artist, Megan Mosholder, really took inspiration from our rich musical heritage here in Macon. Using these really cool cords of vibrant color palettes, the piece truly speaks to the musical heritage and landscape of Macon.”

She explained how the installation pays tribute to Macon’s legendary and contemporary music scene.

“It’s been inspired by our incredible music greats, like Otis Redding, Little Richard, and The Allman Brothers Band, but also the current music scene we have. So, it’s meant to be a really immersive experience that makes you think about Macon’s music and how it’s installed,” she said.

Hopkins believes this architectural art experience will help highlight creativity in Middle Georgia.

“Public art has an incredible opportunity to build connections among people because we all look at art a little differently,” she said. “It’s always a way to spark discussion, but it’s also a way to bring people together. People are going to see this and think, ‘Oh my goodness, I want to go check this out.’ It will bring people together from all walks of life. And it’s perfect to do that in a downtown setting because that’s what downtown is all about is bringing people together.”

The unveiling of Echoes of Sound is this Friday at 7 p.m. during the Cherry Blossom Festival. Attendees will also have the chance to meet the artist, Megan Mosholder.
