East Macon man asking city to pave dirt road outside home

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon resident is saying its time for the road outside his home to be paved.

Billy Nipper raised his family in his home on Caroline Dr in east Macon.

“It’ll be 58 years this upcoming fall, this has been a dirt road the whole time,” Nipper said. “I feel left out, neglected.”

There are more than 3,200 total roads in Macon-Bibb, 222 of them are unpaved. Nipper says Caroline Dr., which is connected to Harold Rd. is bumpy and dusty. When it rains, the water flow damages the road.

“There’s places up here on Harold Road where its washed across the road in two different places, and it’s kinda hard to get them out here to get it repaired,” Nipper said.

Nipper says two of his neighbors complain about the dust, because it’s bad for their respiratory systems. They live on Harold Rd. and also want it paved.

“I’m taxpaying just like everybody that lives on paved roads,” Nipper said.

41NBC reached out to the Macon-Bibb Engineering Department to find out what Nipper and his neighbors have to do to get their roads paved. We’ll continue to check with the Engineering Dept. to get that answer and update this story.
