Dump truck struck by train in Monroe County, deputies say

Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Highway 41 South and Pea Ridge Road at 8:55 a.m. on May 27.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A dump truck was struck by a train Wednesday morning in Monroe County after deputies say the truck failed to yield at a railroad crossing, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Highway 41 South and Pea Ridge Road at 8:55 a.m. on May 27.

A preliminary report from the sheriff’s office indicates the back of the dump truck was hit by the oncoming train. Authorities say there were no injuries and the train did not derail.

Drivers are encouraged to use an alternate route as traffic is expected to remain heavy in the area.
