Dublin man arrested for fatal shooting of ex-girlfriend, GBI investigating

On March 7, the Dublin Police Department requested the GBI to assist with the investigation into a death around 5:50 a.m.

DUBLIN , Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Dublin man was arrested Monday for the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

On March 10, 37-year-old Lenton OBryant Jones (a.k.a. Kobe Bryant Jones) was arrested and charged with malice murder, two counts of cruelty to children in the 1st degree, one count of aggravated assault, and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in connection with the death of 31-year-old Detrenell Michelle Downing.

On March 7, the Dublin Police Department requested the GBI to assist with the investigation into a death around 5:50 a.m.

At 5:20 a.m., the Dublin Police Department was dispatched to Hillcrest Apartment Complex located in the 200 block of Hillcrest Drive in reference to a woman being shot.

According to the GBI, officers discovered Downing had died from a gunshot wound in the parking lot of the apartment complex. The GBI confirmed that Downing lived at the apartment complex.

The investigation revealed that Jones, Downing’s ex-boyfriend, shot and killed her after he confronted her outside of her apartment in the parking lot.

The GBI says that Jones turned himself in at the Dublin Police Department on March 10 and was booked into the Laurens County Detention Center.
