DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Dublin City schools have reopened their doors to all students and staff after being closed for nearly a week due to the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, which ravaged Georgia and five other states.
Matt Taylor, principal of Irish Gifted Academy, spoke with parents to assess the impact of the hurricane on the community before the children returned to school.
“We have about 70% of our students here today,’ he said. “We’ve been reaching out via phone and text to offer support. We want to ensure that everything is okay for them.”
Principal Taylor says mental health support is available to students.
“We have an amazing behavioral health department that offers support not only to schools but to the entire community,” he said. “We have provided a platform on our website where immediate support can be accessed.”
