Areas of fog are possible across Middle Georgia early Friday morning. Overall, the day will be warm and dry under the influence of a high-pressure ridge with southeast flow.

Setting the Stage for an Active Weekend

This will start to set the stage for a very active weather weekend across Georgia.

Friday Forecast: Warm but Slightly Cooler

Highs today will be a few degrees cooler than yesterday, topping out in the low to mid-70s areawide.

Severe Weather Threat: Friday Night to Sunday Afternoon

A very strong storm system will bring severe weather to much of the Southeast between Friday night and Sunday afternoon. This system has a notable strong wind component as well as significant energy. The overlap of these two factors supports the threat of severe weather for Middle Georgia.

Timing of Severe Weather in Middle Georgia

Severe weather is expected between Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, moving from west to east as the front pushes the line of storms through the state. At the start, some rain may develop in parts of northwest Georgia.

Saturday: Storm Development and Moisture Increase

As we move into Saturday, a strengthening low-pressure system will be forced eastward, with a second piece of energy rotating around its base. At the surface, a cold front will track eastward, allowing ample moisture to stream into the region. This will increase dewpoints from south to north throughout the day.

Saturday Night to Sunday Afternoon: Thunderstorms Move Through

Thunderstorms associated with the cold front will move through Saturday night into Sunday afternoon.

Storms Clearing by Sunday Evening
