Dr. Alicia M. Johnson says her campaign for the Georgia Public Service Commission is focused on restoring transparency, protecting consumers, and advancing clean, affordable energy across the state.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Dr. Alicia M. Johnson says her campaign for the Georgia Public Service Commission is focused on restoring transparency, protecting consumers, and advancing clean, affordable energy across the state.
A Savannah native with nearly 30 years of experience in human services, healthcare and economic development, Johnson says she’s running to bring “ethical leadership and accountability” to the commission. On her campaign website, she says public service should be “guided by integrity, not personal ambition,” and promises to “restore trust through transparent decision-making.”
Johnson criticized recent utility rate increases and said she wants to ensure working families aren’t left paying the price for outdated infrastructure. Her campaign site says she will “fight unchecked rate hikes that hurt working families” and “advocate for ratepayer protections.” She also supports expanding renewable energy options like solar and wind, calling them “clean, cost-effective solutions that benefit both consumers and the environment.”
In her interview, Johnson spoke about the need for the PSC to be more open about how energy decisions are made and how rates are determined. According to her campaign website, she “will uphold term limits and ethical standards” and believes the PSC should serve as “a watchdog for the public, not a lifetime seat.”
Johnson also mentioned her focus on equity and inclusion, saying rural and underserved communities should not be left behind in Georgia’s energy transition. Her campaign site says she has led initiatives helping more than 10,000 Georgia households access employment, public benefits and financial literacy resources.
“Every voice deserves power—literally and politically,” she wrote on her website.
Johnson currently serves as Georgia Managing Principal at Health Management Associates, where she leads strategy on national projects focused on equity and sustainable development. She says her experience in both public and private sectors gives her the perspective needed to make fair, informed decisions on behalf of Georgia ratepayers.
