Downtown Milledgeville Intersection Closed After Water Main Break

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A busy downtown intersection is closed after a water main break in Milledgeville.

Workers repaired the water line at the intersection of Columbia Street and Hancock Street early Tuesday morning. City Manager Barry Jarrett says no businesses or residences were left without water during the breakage.

City officials and the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) are trying to get the roadway fixed so that transportation can resume through the intersection. Jarrett expects that to occur sometime Tuesday afternoon.

In the meantime, GDOT is encouraging drivers to use SR 243/22/49 as the official detour or find another route.
