Dooly County Bobcats Ready to Head to the Georgia Dome for Class A State Championship Game

VIENNA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A 10-7 upset win over Lincoln County last week catapulted Dooly County into Saturday’s Class A state championship game.

“It was a slugfest,” says Dooly County head coach Jimmy Hughes.  “I mean, there’s no other way to describe it.  They were two good defenses going at it.  A lot of tradition over in Lincolnton with Coach Campbell, (who’s) won 400 and some odd games, and just a tough place to win.  Our kids found a way once again to win the game, and we played outstanding defense.  We did just enough on offense to win the game.”

Saturday morning, the Bobcats take on Emanuel County Institute–a team who likes to run the ball.

“Last time we played a Wing-T team, it was Seminole,” says senior defensive tackle, Montravius Adams, who’s being looked at by several Division I schools.  “We gave up a lot of rushing yards, which we don’t do a lot, but that’s the only thing we’re going to struggle with.  But we’re going to pick it up.  We’re going to do good.  We’re going to win.”

“Everything else–the hotel, and going out to eat–we don’t look at that as a treat, we look at it as a part of handling business,” says senior defensive end, Jaylen Daniels.  “It really ain’t no focus but the game right now, and winning.”

There’s no school this week at Dooly County, but the office has been busier than normal since Monday.

“We’ve sold about 300 tickets,” says the school’s secretary, Lanas Jolly.  “And yesterday we ordered 300 shirts, and they’re almost gone.”

“We’re hoping we have a good crowd up there to support our young people,” says Hughes.  “And I’m sure we will.  I just hope that we show up and play the way that we’re capable of.”

If you want to go to the Georgia Dome to watch the Bobcats play on Saturday, the school is providing a bus.  It’s just $2 to ride, and tickets will be on sale at the school until Friday at 1 p.m.

The game kicks off Saturday morning at 11:30.  41NBC’s Tucker Sargent will be there and will bring you the results Sunday night on 41NBC.
