Dog Of The Week: Athena

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Athena is your Dog Of The Week this week.

She is a rescue dog and Shepard-Husky mix, who is just over a year old.

John-Todd Van Hove stopped by the 41NBC studio to introduce her. He is hoping Athena will be approved to begin training to become a therapy dog for his wife, Rebekah.

Rebekah was diagnosed in 2016 with Major Depressive Disorder, Adult ADHD and Aspergers. Athena would help calm Rebekah’s nerves in tense social settings, remind her to take her medication and ease her anxiety attacks.

Athena must be evaluated first before beginning training to be a Psychiatric Service Dog.

The process is expensive and the Van Hove’s are asking for financial support. You can read Rebekah’s full story and donate on the couple’s GoFundMe page: https://www.gofundme.com/service-dog-for-rebekah.
