Dodge County hopes to slay the ACE Gryphons in region battle
The 2-0 Dodge County Indians gear up for a region battle with the 2-0 ACE Gryphons Friday night in Macon.

EASTMAN, Georgia – (41NBC/WMGT) – The End Zone Game of the Week for Week Four of the high school football season features the Dodge County Indians taking on Region 2-A Division I opponent ACE.
This red hot Indians squad is coming off a 19-16 victory over rival Bleckley County in the Game of the Week from Week Two, as well as a 42-12 win against Central in their home opener this past weekend. Led by first-year head coach Philip Brown, this Dodge County team has drastically turned around from the group they were just a season ago. With a new spread offense that has scored 61 points in the first two games of the season, Coach Brown and the Indians are now 2-0 in this new 10-team region and looking foward to their biggest region battle yet against the 2-0 Gryphons.
“I think its going to be cool,” Brown said at Wednesday morning’s practice. “It’s going to be rainy. It’s football weather. It’s a mentality game. “What’s your mindset going into that game? And how you’re going to handle that. The team that handles it [best] will be successful.”
This team has also bonded over the acronym ‘H.E.A.R.T.’, to bring the team closer both on and off the field, and to help them buy into a program that has, so far, taken off this season.
Dodge County had a solid defense in place already coming into the season, and even with a future Alabama linebacker leading the way on the defensive side (and sometimes offensive side) of the ball, Brown and Darrell “Duke” Johnson are proud of how far this offense has come since fall camp.
“The biggest thing is our defense has always kind of been ahead of the offense, but I’m very proud of the way our offense is progressing game by game,” Brown said. “We are doing different things better each game. So, just excited to see the maturation of that group and how they do throughout this season.”
“At fall camp, we was really down,” Johnson said Wednesday. “Now, everybody’s buying in, being leaders, sticking to the script, flipping the script also. So, we are just going out there to win for our coaches, and we’re all going to be great.”
Kickoff is set for 7:30 Friday night at ACE’s Perkins Field in Macon.
