Dodge Commissioner Archie Dupree Dies, Suicide Suspected

The Dodge County community is mourning the loss of an elected official.

The suspected suicide of Commissioner Archie Dupree Sr. has family and friends shocked.

Commissioner William Howell asks, “What in the world went wrong?”

Friends of Dupree say they never saw any signs of him taking his own life. He was kind and caring.

“Mr. Dupree served our country, he’s a Vietnam veteran and when he returned back home one of his main goals was to serve the people of this county that we could make Dodge County a better place for the citizens to live,” said friend John Battles.

Dupree worked at Rollins Funeral Home for more than 40 years.

“He was one employee that you could depend on, we felt very comfortable leaving our business and going out of town because he would carry on,” said Joel Rollins.

Friends say he will truly be missed.

Dupree was pronounced dead at 11:58 Sunday morning.

His body has been taken to the GBI crime lab. Dodge County Coroner Joe Smith expects to have an autopsy early this week. No funeral arrangements have been scheduled.
