Deputies recover stolen cars after convoluted heist
The Jones County Sheriff's Office says a stolen wrecker was used to steal two cars

JONES COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Jones County deputies recovered three stolen cars, including a wrecker, from a Macon business.
It started Friday, June 14 when the Jones County Sheriff’s Office says Gabriel Kaison Martin took a Chevy Silverado from 49 Wrecker Service. According to the sheriff’s office, that location has been shut down for a about year and several repossessed cars are sitting in their lot.
Later, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office found the stolen Silverado broken and abandoned down near Emery Highway and Second Street in Macon. Deputies had the car towed by Kitchens Wrecker Service, according to the Jones County Sheriff’s Office.
After Kitchens Wrecker Service parked the Silverado, Investigator Crystal Murphy says Martin returned to the car with a gas can. According to Murphy, he filled the Silverado’s gas tank and tried to start the engine. It appears the vehicle had bigger problems than running on empty, and wouldn’t start.
That’s when Investigator Murphey tells us Martin changed tactics and hauled the car out on the back of a wrecker. Martin was seen by a dispatcher Dispatch Lieutenant Bobby Gay Saturday morning on his commute to work. He was unloading the Silverado from the wrecker at the time. So, when Lieutenant Gay got a call about that same wrecker, it sounded familiar.
From there, deputies were able to track Martin down, as well as the three stolen cars. The sheriff’s office says Martin had returned to to the 49 Wrecker Service Lot in Jones County for another car. This time, a Camaro was loaded onto the stolen Kitchens Wrecker.
Now, Martin faces felony charges in both Bibb and Jones County:
Bibb
- Felony criminal damage to property
- Felony theft by taking auto
Jones
- Felony theft by taking – 2 counts
More charges could follow as the Jones County Sheriff’s Office continues investigating this case.
