Dental Clinic Offers Free Screenings for Kids

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — February marks ‘National Children’s Dental Health’ month, and Small Smiles of Macon is giving kids free screenings and check-ups.

The clinic is helping teach kids and parents about the importance of things like bushing and flossing, and maintaining their oral health. Rebecca Jackson, a hygientist at Small Smiles, explained that children between the ages of one and five, have the highest levels of dental decay. Also, Jackson says “tooth decay is the single most common childhood disease”.

“It’s usually from the use of a bottle at night, which is ‘baby bottle tooth decay’. Or even a sippy cup…that has milk or juice in it. That is the leading cause of the kids’ decay, because of its constant absorbing of sugar,” Jackson says.

The free clinic is open from 9:00a.m. until 11:00a.m. The next free screening will take place some time in October.
