Defense Rests Case In Williams Trial

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The Federal Court Case involving former Warner Robins City Councilman John Williams resumed today. The prosecution and defense rested their cases just after 3:30 this afternoon. Attorneys for the federal government presented video and phone evidence of Williams receiving a “kick-back” or commission for the purchase of a 2006 Toyota Tundra.

The truck was supposed to be used as an undercover police vehicle. In the video presented by the prosecution, it shows Williams accepting money from Naim Jaber, a Signature Auto Sales Employee. In 2002, the FBI started using Jaber as a “Confidential Human Source”.

Jaber wasn’t a legal citizen of the United States. So in return for information, the FBI started helping Jaber file for his Visa every year since 2005 to stay in the U-S. Jaber and the owner of Signature Auto Sales, Jaber’s cousin, Mo Ahmad testified this afternoon.

Williams is charged with extortion, making false statements to a federal agent, and tampering with a witness. Williams’ defense is asking for an acquittal of all three charges. Closing arguments are expected tomorrow morning at 9.
