Deer hunting season brings economic boost

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Deer hunting season provides the state of Georgia with an economic impact of more than $890 million, according to the Georgia Wildlife Resources Division. 

A Macon gun range owner said it also supports more than 11,000 jobs in the state.

“It’s a huge industry. People don’t understand that the socks you buy, the boots you buy, the pants and the dinner that you eat when the hunters come from out of state and out of town.. that all adds an economic plus,” said Hamp Dowling, Owner of Eagle Gun Range. 

Georgia Wildlife Resources Division is hosting 8 statewide public meetings this month. These meetings give community members the opportunity to give their input regarding the Draft Deer Management Plan.

One of those discussion was held Wednesday night at the Monroe County Public Library. 

WRD will take these suggestions into consideration when finalizing the DMP.

Deer hunting season begins September 13th for archery sportsmen. Gun users can start hunting on October 11th.
