MONICA- Good afternoon. Today we have De’Ron Rogers, who’s running for Georgia House District 145 joining us. Thank you for being here.
DE’RON- Thanks for having me. I’m super excited.
MONICA- It’s a good day. I have a few questions coming up for you. First off, starting off with what do you think is the biggest issue or challenge that needs to be addressed and how do you plan on fixing it if elected?
DE’RON- You know, that’s a that’s a large question and and so many facets to that question. I think, though, when I’m out talking to people really and truly just inflation, it’s killing all of us and it and it affects everyone across the board. And I think that we just really need to to look at that. And I know our state legislators have passed the most significant tax decrease in our state’s history, as well as increase the the homestead exemption for all of us, which helped a great amount. But there’s so much left to be done. Of course, when I get up there, I will be focused on economic development, health care and education. We need to really look at to expand our economic growth in Georgia. But we need to look into our educational situations and to help those kids be prepared. We can’t have economic growth if we don’t have workers. So we need to come up with solutions for that and to have aggressive educational situations in place and also our health care. I think that I will definitely support Governor Kemp’s initiative to extend health care coverage to thousands of Georgians because we need healthy people to be to go to work and to have healthy communities. We need healthy children to be students. We need healthy parents to be able to go to these jobs that we need, jobs that we’re creating. So I’m just looking to having a and I’m really just trying to get to the core of what our state and our community needs and then rolling up the sleeves and trying to figure it out.
MONICA- All right. And you already have your sleeves rolled up.
DE’RON- I do.
MONICA- I saw it. I know. How has your background and experience prepared you for this role?
DE’RON- Okay. So at 60 years old, I’ve done a lot of things. I’ve been a lot of places. I’ve worn a lot of hats most recently, obviously. And throughout my life, I’ve been an entrepreneur. But I’ve worked many other jobs. I’ve been in many other organizations. I’ve been on the receiving end of asking for donations for ball teams and for schools. I’ve worked concession stands. I’ve been in banking. I worked at a legal office. I’ve done many things. And in in each one of those situations, I’ve learned I’ve learned different aspects of so many different situations. This and coming across to coming to a table to figure out solutions. I’m a solutions finder. I am a problem solver. I can get things done. And I think that really has brought us to this. Now, being a small business owner, I’ve learned how to adapt and innovate to different situations in the market, in my businesses, with customers. I just think all of that will just really sit well with me in the capital. I think that I’ll be able to do a really good job.
MONICA- All right. And lastly, what would progress look like to you if you are elected?
DE’RON- In a perfect world, you know, we would want everyone to be happy, although we know that’s not going to be the case. Progress to me would put Georgia the number one state to live in. I’m proud of Middle Georgia, and I’m just as proud of Georgia. I’m proud of being born here. I’m proud of raising my children here. I look forward to my grandchildren being here. I want a Georgia that that my children are proud of, that my grandchildren are proud of. I want a Georgia that has jobs for healthy people and happy people. I want one of those. You know, we see all of these things come out on the news. You know, this is the number one state to live in. This is the number one city to live in. I would love for us to be highlighted on one of those. This is the place to live. They had the happiest people. They had the best jobs and they have the best families. That would be progress to me.
