Decision 2013: Young Says Residents of District One Need Approachable Leader

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Candidate for Macon-Bibb County Commission District One, Harold Young says although he’s new to politics, he’s got the right qualities to be your leader.

Young believes fostering growth in Macon begins with promoting what the city’s already got in place. For instance, he notes that while driving up I-75 you’ll see signs for Tanger Outlets miles in advance.

Young says our county should line I-75 north and south with more billboards directing traffic to the Shoppes at River Crossing.

“We need to promote that mall more,” said Young.

The shopping center is in his district, but Young says there’s plenty of room in that area for more commericial businesses especially since another apartment complex just went up in the area. But, Young also sees the entire county as a place for economic growth.

“I want to make this potential reality,” said Young.

While the California native has only lived in Macon for five years, he calls Middle Georgia home. He says the new commission needs a fresh face and a leader that people can relate to.

“I’m approachable… the politicians in this city are not approachable and they do not really talk to people on the streets,” said Young.

Young currently serves as the executive director of the nonprofit Macon-A-Change.
