DECISION 2013: Former Businessman Wants to Lead District 5

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Jon Carson has spent a lot of time asking the residents of District 5 what they want for their community when the new government takes office.

“A majority of them want a clean, safe, neighborhood… and of course jobs,” said Carson.

Carson, who spent more than thirty years running and managing retail, says that’s why he’s the right person to represent District 5 for the next four years.

“The city, county government needs to be run like a business,” said Carson.

Carson says he’s been through the current county and city budgets and with not a lot of fat left to cut, the new commission is going to have a tough job to do. But, he says it’s important that the new leaders find ways to stay balanced.

“So we’re going to have to work to hopefully increase the tax base where we can offset it,” said Carson.

Carson has some ideas for increasing that tax base. He talked about possibly bringing a water or theme park to Macon.

He also mentioned partnering with corporations to bring more music into Macon. At the end of his interview with 41NBC, Carson also said, if elected, he’ll work bring the music hall of fame back to Macon, where it belongs.
