DECISION 2013: District 5 Candidate Bivins Says Cooperation is Key for New Government

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — When the new Macon-Bibb County government takes office, Bert Bivins believes a lot of issues will pop up, and cooperation is going to be key to tackling them.

“I’ve developed the ability to work with people to get along, and build consensus and I think that’s going to be critical with this new government

,” said Bivins.Currently, Bivins is a Bibb County commissioner. He wants to continue that service and represent the residents of District 5 starting in January.

He says if you want to get to know him and what he’s all about, just ask around.

“I think when you talk to people, people will say some positive things.. I think there are a lot of people out there who’ve gotten to know me,” said Bivins.

Some of the biggest issues Bivins believes the new government will face are balancing the budget and merging city and county workers, especially since the pay scales are different.

“We’re going to have to find a way to reconcile those differences… we have to make the decisions, and the tough thing is going to be doing what’s fair,”

said Bivins. As a current member of the Bibb County Board of Commissioners, Bivins serves as chair of the ordinances and resolutions committee, and a member of the properties committee.
